If you are a professional going for treatment, STAY AWAY. I've been sober since 2013, spending 45 days at Next Step and 45 at the Professional Enhancement Program (PEP). I initially went in for substance abuse. If you go in for substances, there's a good chance you'll end up at PEP.
Despite definitive data showing improved outcome with opiate replacement therapy or monthly naltrexone injections, Pine Grove ignores those options. Opiate addicts, without replacement therapy, have a 60% relapse rate the FIRST WEEK after discharge. Replacement medication decreases all cause mortality by 50%.
Pine Grove has a sex addiction unit and PEP is on the lookout. Data on treatment effectiveness is lacking, likely because sexual compulsion issues probably aren't an "addiction". The American Psychological Association doesn't support the diagnosis and it's not in the DSM-5. They are undeterred, however. If suspicious they will fish for it with polygraph. It's not good; it's pseudoscience. One day, if not already, someone will get pushed too far.
Pine Grove is watching preventable relapses and overdoses. Their stance is in opposition to recommendations by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMSA) and multiple other professional organizations. (See POATS study by Weiss, 2011). After his third relapse (opiates), a friend was just placed on Naltrexone. He went to Pine Grove twice, neither time was that mentioned. Had he started somewhere offerring Naltrexone, the relapses may have been avoided.
Wonderful place of professionals that care for patients and their families. I would highly recommend this treatment for those seeking help for addiction, trauma, or professional license issues. The professionals recovery tract is especially helpful. The family program was very beneficial to my family and helped to restore communication between us. Sometimes the truth is hard to hear and people resist, but if you submit to the process it will help you in the end. So glad my family chose this place for me.
I changed to the Acumen Institute in Kansas. They have a more supportive approach. I feel better about myself. I'm less stressed and more optimistic. It's also a fraction of the time and money. If it's substance abuse you will get 90 days (Acumen doesn't do substance rehab.). In my opinion, the use of Naltrexone is a bellweather for quality. If they aren't offering it, be careful.
I really don't care what any of the negative reviews say, there are WAY worse places to get clean. I have the staff and program at Pine Grove Women's Center to thank for helping me save my life. Just because I didn't agree or like some of the rules (no smoking/very limited caffeine) and things I was encouraged to do, it set a solid foundation on which I have built 2.5 years of recovery. I appreciated the fact that I was getting such intensive care in an environment that didn't feel like a hospital or but house. I still go back for Days of Hope and would recommend this facility to anybody looking to get clean and sober.
I went back to PEP every 6 months for 4 years. As time went on, the treatment went south. I was mis-diagnosed. Polygraph questions, poorly worded, were used for confirmation. It was really bad. I saw one of my treatment reports and was shocked. It painted an inaccurate picture that threatened my livelihood. I got re-evaluated and transferred.
Next Step is substance rehab. for men. They address mood and anxiety disorders with medication. They do not offer buprenorphine, naltrexone, baclofen or any other risk reduction medication. The model is based on social support and supernatural intervention. They do not keep relapse statistics.
PEP therapy is high on anxious distress and low on support. They are too stringent. My friend talked to the head of our medical board twice to have PEP's restrictions eased; both times she agreed. He left the program. Of the 4 people who went there in my support group, three of us transferred.
Rechecks are a total drag. Instead of Monday through Friday, it's Thursday through Wednesday. You stay for a weekend despite no clinical activity. I never returned home feeling better. They have a "tear down and rebuild" philosophy. They aren't very good at the rebuild.
My name is jesus gomez and i had a good time they got good food and other good stuff
Therapists at PEP embrace the dubious science of sex addiction, ignoring the valid science of chemical addiction. They are micromanagers and true believers. Equipped with polygraph, they have almost total power over your career. What can go wrong?
Good luck, hang in there.
Caring and compassionate people who truly want to see people live their best life. They understand how vulnerable you feel and how frightening it can be, and every staff member I met from the janitorial services to the doctors were friendly and kind. They also emphasize total body wellness and provide stable psych patients plenty of time outside. There are fountains and walking trails. It's a beautiful campus and I had a great experience there. A small matter, but the food is also very good. Ms. Dimples, Ms. Dorinda, and so many others I can't name right right now. A topnotch facility filled with devoted and caring professionals.
